NSAL COLLABORATIVE PIANO AND BRASS DUO COMPETITION

NSAL Florida East Coast Chapter is proud to announce our newest competition, which will celebrate the brass-piano collaboration and repertoire while identifying duos with the artistic and technical capacity to succeed professionally.

Application, Preliminary video recording and $50 application fee must be submitted via Acceptd  no later than:

Monday, October 1, 2018
 

LIVE FINAL ROUND NOVEMBER 10, 2018 at Lynn University, Amarnick Goldstein Concert Hall, 3601 Military Trail, Boca Raton, Florida 33431 at 9 AM. Applicants will be notified by Monday, October 10, 2018 if they have been chosen to compete in finals.

Winners will receive:
First Prize - $2,000 each 
Second Prize - $1,000 each 
Third Prize - $500 each

Competition Rules: 

1. Open to duos of piano and brass (Trumpet, French Horn, Trombone and Tuba). 
2. Contestants must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program of study in the state of Florida where they are a legal resident and have a U.S. Social Security number. Proof is required with the competition application. 
3. Contestants must not be a member of a professional union nor be under professional management at the time of the competition. Contestants must not be related to an NSAL member having any involvement in the competition. 
4. Duo personnel must remain the same for both rounds. 
5. No changes to the repertoire to be performed can be made after the preliminary application is submitted.

Competition Requirements:

  1.  Applicants must complete the Acceptd application by October 1, 2018. 
  2.  Application fee: $50 (payable on the Acceptd application
  3. Preliminary round video recording must consist of:   
  • * A complete sonata or major work from repertoire written for a brass instrument and piano     (no transcriptions or concerti). Selection must be greater than 10 minutes in length.                                                                           
  • * A concert/show/character piece, art song or transcription lasting no longer than 5 minutes. 

      4. Finalists will be notified via email by October 10, 2018.

      5. Finalists must perform the same program submitted for the preliminary round.

       6. Applicants may not compete as a member of more than one group                                                                                      

Adjudication:

  1.  Judges are not obligated to designate a first place winner if, in their opinion, no contestant qualifies.  
  2.  Judge's score sheets may include comments on the performances. Score sheets may be sent to the contestants following conclusion of the competition at the discretion of the judges.
